A handmade artist book featuring three poems by W.B. Yeats, 'Sailing to Byzantium', The Cloths of Heaven' and 'The Wandering Song of Aengus'. A lovely literary gift that can be personalized with a dedication printed on the end page of the inside front cover or title page. It is hand bound using a coptic stitch which has been used for centuries - W.B.Yeats would have liked that!

I have complemented the poems with illustration to reference Yeats reflections about ageing, and about nurturing the spirit in order to live as fully as possible in a mortal world. The illustrations for Cloths of Gold are originally from medieval manuscript, as Yeats had a predilection for history and tradition and I think he would have approved of choosing images from a previous century referencing the age old traditions of using art to express our human existence. In Cloths of Gold I think Yeats is referring to the beauty that nature provides us with in landscape. The final poem is exquisite, and I have superimposed some blossom from the poem onto a vintage portrait of a beauty . The poem refers back to old mythology in which Aengus is entranced by a vision for whom he searches, and finds her, but both are turned into swans for a year. Yeat's Aengus has a vision, but is still searching. He refers to the magical transformative powers of sun and moon, of magic and meaning - and it is this transforming message of faith that Yeats hearkens back to.

The cover complements the books textured pages, which are printed onto a heavyweight premium paper, Bockingford 190gsm for longevity and print quality. The cover may differ slightly as each book I make is made to order and is individual . The finished book measures approx 11 x 15cm and is sewn together using a traditional coptic stitch method.

Each book I make is researched and produced by myself, and reflects my interests in art, history and literature. Nature is also a theme which I return to. Each book is individual and can be much longer in it's gestation than in its manufacture!! Some take months to become clear to me!!

This is PERFECT. Literally one of my new favorite items that I own. Just... sigh. I love it.

Exquisite gem of a book. The illustrations, the choice of poetry and the binding all merge into one glorious whole. The presentation, too, in a folded slipcase for protection, is lovely. I shall take this volume down and reread (and admire) it often.
