This inspiring tutorial will walk you through the process of making a bead embroidered ATC start to finish, an in depth look at how I created my patchwork purse and a wealth of information on creating wallhangings, barrettes and jewelry, using many different media in addition to beads and beading foundation.
Rather than a traditional step by step tutorial, this is written as a guide and a spring board for your imagination. It talks about using fabric as a background to your bead embroidery, using both ribbons and fibers in your creations, and how to create beautiful finished works. I hope you will take the things discussed and use them to create art with your own distinctive creative voice.
To start this bead embroidery journey, you will need fabric or colored beading foundation, possibly a piece of yarn, ribbon or art fibers, a stash of beads and focal pieces, a good needle and a pair of scissors. Everything else is up to you and what you have on hand. I have a comprehensive list of the materials I used for the dragonfly ATC created in the tutorial, but you can substitute anything at all for your own ATC, and I have made many suggestions for options in the Notes section of the file.
This tutorial is intended for Intermediate to Advanced beaders, and is not recommended for beginner bead embroiderers. It is necessary to be familiar with bead embroidery terms such as 'backstitch' and 'stop stitch', as well as sewing terms such as 'tacking' and 'running stitch' as these are NOT explained in detail.
