1910's Gravy Boat by Johnson Brothers England

Description

I truely love this 1910's Gravy Boat by Johnsn Brothers of England.

Look at the elegant lines! Look at the stunning Art Deco design!

I found photograph 5 on the internet without searching too hard!! Which inspired which I wonder?

Now imagine the entire service laid out on a long table for a banquette ........

On the base of the Gravy Boat is "Victorian" a crown and Johnson Brothers England.

We know that "Victorian" is not the period or design. It is in fact the name given to a particular batch of unusually creamy clay that was used by Johnson Brothers between 1909 and 1921.

It is 8" (20cm) long, 3.75" (9.5cm) at its widest and 2.75" (7cm) tall and weighs 7.8ozs (220g).

Despite many searches, the help of ceramics historians and Wedgwood (who now own all the Johnson Brothers rights), we can not find a pattern name, exact date of manufacture or any other piece of pottery in this design.

Wedgwood thoughts are that it could well have been a commission pattern and that's why there is no pattern name in their records.

I think it is stunning.

An orange sun breaking through clouds on a frosty winters morning.

Art Deco at it's very best.

I've listed this Gravy Boat, as much to see if anyone can add any information, as to sell it but you are, of course, most welcome to purchase it!

Condition:
There are no chips or cracks but there is crazing, discolouration and a little thinning of the gold edging .... but hey! .... who cares. I'm just as happy to keep this one as to sell it!

And finally

To all you Gravy boat collectors (and I know you are out there) .......

The chances are that THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND so go ahead and make your collection unique and extra special.

Returns & exchanges

Refunds and Exchanges

All sales are final unless goods prove to be not as described. Photographs of the item form an integral part of the item description. Please read the descriptions & check out the photographs very carefully before placing your order! If you would like further photographs, please let me know.

FlyingSheepAntiques sells vintage and antique items and collectables which are typically 25 - 200 years old. They are generally used, reclaimed, and/or previously worn items. They are therefore unlikely to be in perfect, mint condition.
We endeavour to describe each item completely and honestly.
We list defects and issues with an item as well as its virtues.
We include photographs which form an integral part of the item description.
The best idea is to raise queries before buying!
If you would like additional photographs, please ask before you buy.

We will happily exchange or refund the purchase price of an item (including original and return shipping costs) where it is shown that the item description, including the photographs, is incorrect.

We pack every item very carefully, perhaps a bit excessively at times, because we want the item to arrive in the condition it left us. However, if you decide not to opt for Postal Insurance and a Tracked/Signed for services, we will not be held liable for any loss or damage which occurs in transit.
