Description

A super-flexible tool, and not just because it's made of a rubbery firm jelly-like material! Use this monoprinting plate again and again in different ways, you won't be able to stop yourself it's so fast and addictive.

Created as a permanent substitute for printing plates made with gelatine, the US manufacturers of Gelli Arts have come up with a plate that behaves in a very similar way, but these are much more durable and can be stored permanently at room temperature - so you avoid the hassle of refrigeration or repeated fiddly mixing up and setting of gelatine mixtures. Nice to have an option free of animal products too.

A gelli plate works so well as a monoprinting surface as when you press in textured objects, it holds all the detail of those surfaces and allows you to transfer them to a print. So roller it up with a thin layer of ink or acrylic paint and press in a fern, you'll take a print of the leaf's silhouette first, then lift up the fern and print again and all the veins of the plant are there in your print.

Gelli Arts have a YouTube channel with loads of great free tutorials. We run classes too, at Medway Fine Printmakers in North Kent, and sometimes in London. 'Monoprinting' just means that you make unique, one-off prints. It's so easy to do, and definitely something you can get the whole family into as people of all ages love this printing technique.

This listing is for the 8 x 10 inch plate (approx A4 size). The printed images in this listing are just there as examples of what you can do with this tool:
--- Overlap layers of paint
--- Use the plates with stencils
--- Take prints from nature or objects like lace
--- Make marks with textured materials like bubble wrap or corrugated cardboard...

You will find yourself roaming the house or the streets looking for textures and anything could fall prey to your Gelli Arts plate! You can carefully build up images to make prints for framing, or just overprint textures with joyful abandon to make papers for backgrounds, covering books, invitations, cards, cutting out for labels and in a endless variety of crafts.

It's not cheap, but if you treat the plate with a bit of care, don't stick sharp objects into it or leave it in too hot a place, make sure you clean and store it properly etc. this plate will last for years. You can print using either side, and you can even cut it up if you want to make smaller plates.

Gelli Arts make lots of different sized and shaped plates, but I only sell this one as it's more flexible to have a large plate, plus you can use stencils to make circles, squares etc. I'll be selling some of those soon too.

The Gelli Arts plate was winner of the 2015 Creative World Creative Tool of the Year.

Recommended for buyers in the UK, Ireland or Europe. This item is a little heavy to send and you can probably find a cheaper supplier more local to you if you are outside Europe. There's a list on the manufacturer's website
