Alquerque (Quirkat) is a board game that is thought to have originated in the Middle East in about 2000 BC. It is considered to be the parent of English Draughts and Fanorona. An Alquerque jump is the most common method used to capture an opponent’s piece.

The game does not appear in literature until late in the 10th century when the author Abu al-Faraj al-Isfahani mentioned Quirkat in his 24 volume work Kitab al-Aghani ("Book of Songs"). This work, however, made no mention of the rules of the game. When the Moors invaded Spain they took El-quirkat with them. Rules are included in Libro de Los Juegos ("Book of Games") commissioned by Alfonso X of Castile in the 13th century under its Spanish name of Alquerque.

Each board is made of 11-ply premium ¾" (1.895 cm) thick Birch plywood for long-term durability. Since wood is a natural product, each board has a unique grain making it one-of-a-kind. The boards are sold stained. The stained boards are satin clear-coated for maximum protection and easy cleaning. Each game comes with two sets of distinctly colored game pieces as well as detailed rules and how-to-play instructions booklet. The colors of game pieces are subject to availability.
