Description

Daughter of Pallas and Styx in Greek mythology, Nike is victory personified. She is probably one of the most commonly known goddesses today, lending her name to the famous sports equipment company ("Just do it"), and frequently depicted in ancient Greek art. From what I've read many of the Greek gods originally had wings (Iris, Arke and Psyche left behind enough evidence about their wings that I included them in each of my paintings of them respectively), but they were eventually dropped from their imagery (Zeus actually ripped off Arke's wings...but otherwise I suspect they ever changing mythology of the times decided to no longer include them). Nike is one of the rare exceptions to this in that she is almost always shown with wings (and is also known as "winged victory" for this reason). She often rewarded the victorious with glory and fame (frequently symbolized with laurel wreaths).

The Nike of Samothrace is a famous ancient portrayal of Nike currently housed in the Louvre. It was my absolute favorite piece when I studied art history in college. You can see my own rendition of Nike is heavily influenced by the statue (though she still has her arms and her head). I wanted to pay homage to one of my favorite works of art while drawing up my own version of the goddess.
This candle stands 8" tall and is 2" in diameter.
The last one of these I burned lasted approximately 85 hours.

Returns and exchange details
As I general rule I don't do exchanges or refunds...but if your item arrives damaged I will be happy to work to repair or potentially replace it (if possible, since most of my items are one of a kind it may not be possible to replace it - in the instance of a ceramic piece for example, I only have access to a pottery studio for a few weeks a year...).

I ship by USPS and will put your item in the mail within two days of payment (if it is pre-made, if I haven't made it yet I shall ship it as soon as it is done).

At this time my list of shipping areas is limited, but I am happy to find out the shipping cost for you wherever you are and ship to you! (That's usually how I start shipping somewhere new...).
