DESCRIPTION: Gouda, Holland, is world-renowned for its colorful, hand-painted pottery - so much so, that the pottery itself has taken on the generic term of Gouda (pronounced how-da, with a gutteral H). According to collectors, the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods prior to WWII (when this piece was made), was the best period for design and quality for PZH. Made in 1939, this scarce/rarely-found Gouda commemorative jug-decanter was most likely created to commemorate the birth of Princess Irene of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau (thus the orange color in the piece), Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld, daughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard. The decanter is hand-painted with flowers and trimmed in orange with an orange crown stopper. Although high-glazed Gouda pottery "went out of style" in the early 1920s, this beautiful piece is finished in a high glaze, making it even more valuable to collectors.

DIMENSIONS: 8 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter at its widest point

CONDITION: This stunning Gouda decanter is in pristine condition. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing anywhere on the piece; and the cork stopper is in very fine condition, fitting snuggly into the opening of the decanter.
