In the early 19th century Seega was popular in Egypt with the fellaheen (peasants, farmers or agricultural laborers). This game is also played by the Somali.

Seega is played on a square board of five by five holes with each player having 12 game pieces. The game play takes place in two phases. In the first phase players place two pieces at a time on any vacant hole except the center hole. In the second phase pieces are moved to any adjacent vacant hole, including the central one. The custodian (flanking an opponent’s piece on two opposite sides) method of capture is used.

The goal of the game is to capture all of the opponent’s pieces.

Specifications

Each board is made of 11-ply premium ¾" (1.895 cm) thick Birch plywood for long-term durability. Since wood is a natural product, each board has a unique grain making it one-of-a-kind. The boards are sold stained. The stained boards are satin clear-coated for maximum protection and easy cleaning. Each game comes with two sets of distinctly colored game pieces as well as detailed rules and how-to-play instructions booklet. The colors of game pieces are subject to availability.
