Materials

Recycled paper, mat board, ink

Field of Poppies was inspired by a visit to the Chicago Botanic Gardens during the summer of 2013, where a vibrant field of poppies shimmered in the afternoon sun. I work from a photograph to create a watercolor painting. I scan and digitally separate the painting into a series of overlapping colors. In this case I used 9 different colors. I create polymer plates from my digital files. These plates are locked onto the bed of a Vandercook press, inked, and transferred onto paper through the application of pressure. Printed at Spudnik Press in Chicago.

The paper (Speckletone) is a recycled paper made by the French Paper Co., a family-owned mill in Niles, Michigan. The print comes signed and numbered (edition of 50) with an archival green mat board and a one-page description of the process.

Note: You will receive the next numbered piece in the edition. Due to the nature of the printing process, slight variations in each individual artwork will occur. These contribute to the uniqueness of each piece in the edition.

Size (outer dimensions of mat): 12 x 9 inches; 30.5 x 22.9 cm.
Size (interior mat window): 10 x 4.5 inches; 25.4 x 11.4 cm.
Package weight = 12 oz.; 340 g (ships flat in a cushion mailer)
