Description

A splendid wall map of Hartford County, Connecticut, in the north-central portion of the state. The major towns of the county are colored, and the region is bisected by the rolling Connecticut River, stretching north to the Massachusetts state line. The map shows remarkable detail, and Thompson notes that it "locates every building in the county, with names of owners marked, excepting with the city of Hartford." The Hartford inset map locates buildings, but does not give the owners' names. Finely executed inset maps show the downtown portions of Farmington, Rocky Hill, New Britain, Wethersfield, Glastonbury, South Glastonbury, Hartford, Windsor Locks, Suffield, Thompsonville, Broad Brook, Warehouse Point, Plainville, Cheneyville, Southington, Unionville, Collinsville, Hazardville, Plantsville, and Berlin. The entire map is surrounded by a series of fine engravings showing prominent buildings and homes in the county, including the State House in Hartford, the State Normal School in New Britain, the Connecticut Literary Institution in Suffield, and the home of Col. A.G. Hazard in Enfield. The map was based on surveys conducted by E.M. Woodford of West Avon, Connecticut , and engraved and printed by
unrestored condition. a few small areas of missing paper. With typical small cracks and one small area of loss in the map. Varnish is fairly clear without the heavy darkening often seen on wall maps from this period. A straightforward restoration will make this a truly beautiful example.

My item included an antique frame and glass, that were wrapped with one layer of small bubble wrap and without a hard surface protection inside the package. The package was not marked "fragile." USPS hit it hard somewhere, and the shattered frame and glass scarred and tore the antebellum image. I understand that each shop sets shipping policy; in this case, 3-day USPS air covered $100 of a $340 outlay, and the arrangement had me as the recipient to collect from the post office. Edward reimbursed me half of the cost, so I end up owning the destroyed piece for $70. I have ordered many like items through various sites and vendors, and I have never seen an antique item like this packaged like this, and I have never been left out such an amount when I did nothing but shop, order, and pay for it. It took 13 days to get this far.
