earBooks -- a pair of book earrings

Miniature hand-made books with original poems and art hand-set in vintage metal type and letterpress printed by Dikko Faust.

The Morgan Library asked Purgatory Pie Press to make book earrings for their shop. Since they loved doing research there, Purgatory Pie Press said, "Yes."

Esther K Smith began to think about that tiny format for publishing short works. She remembered poet Lisa Jarnot's very short poem: SOUND--perfect for an earring. Esther designed the book with Dikko–and then on a whim (right before she had a poetry reading) added her own poem AUTOMATED EDIT. Purgatory Pie Press assistants helped bind the books.

This became a series of 10 tiny poem books.

The Metropolitan Museum carries these earBooks in their shop.

Mix and match these as you like. The variations will give you just one choice, so please include a note if you would like more than one poem, or pattern. The Tessellations are 1" high, the poems are just a bit smaller.

We have some screwback/clips if your ears are not pierced.
