Spectacular Hall China Maroon Automobile Teapot

Company Maker: The Hall China Company

Color: Maroon

Item: Automobile Teapot

Circa: 1938 - 1939

US. Postage and Insurance on this RARELY FOUND Teapot is Only $10.00

Mark: The older round Hall backstamp (please see the photo provided.Round Hall Backstamp

Item Condition: This striking teapot is in Undamaged Condition without chips, cracks, or mold damage. The glaze is fantastic. As is typical with the Maroon Glaze, it is lighter on the areas of the teapot that are raised (the handle, hinges, and edges of the automoble). The deep areas such as the grill and indentions around the door collected more glaze and are darker as a result. This gives teapot more of a relistic, 3 D look. The teapot spout is tooled (not so with newer teapots that were made by Hall). Also notable is that there a small glaze skip on one side of the teapot near the wheel . Again this is typical of this glaze. Please take the time to check it out.

About: Hall Automoble Teapot: 4 1/4" H. - 9 1/2" L.

The Hall China Company produced this beautiful vintage Automobile Teapot in the late 1930s. Automobile Teapots were introduced into the Hall line in 1938 and stayed in the line until 1939 when they were discontinued. Hall did reissue the teapot in the 90s for China Specialties. The reissue is lovely but Hall made some major revisions to the mold which makes it easy to tell the old teapot from the new one.

Automobile Teapot - The Automobile teapot was one of six cleverly designed teapots that were designed by the Hall China Company as a part of their Novelty Teapot Group. These teapots were introduced in 1938 and produced until the end of 1941. The Automobile teapot is one that has found favor with buyers and collectors since 1938 when it was introduced. The automobile teapot is found in solid colors, with the Gold Standard decoration, and with The Gold "Special" decorations, in addition some teapots will be even more ornately gold decorated. Platinum was also used to decorate some of the teapots.

Solid colors for the Automobile teapot include Art Glaze Blue, Black, Cadet Blue, Canary, Chinese Red, Cobalt, Delphinium, Dresden, Emerald, Indian Red, Ivory, Marine, Maroon, Orchid, Turquoise, and Warm Yellow. Gold Special decorations have only been found on Warm Yellow Teapots thus far.

The automobile was reissued in 1993 as a limited edition collectible for China Specialties. These teapots were stamped with the square Hall mark and the year that they were made. They came in colors that Hall never made old, but some of them are similar so the buyer needs to be aware of the differences. The newer automobile did not have the spout tooled the way the earlier automobiles did. Later China Specialties had some of the teapots decorated with some of the older decaled patterns. These patterns include Autumn Leaf, Blue Blossom, Blue Bouquet, Cameo Rose, Cat-Tail, Christmas Tree, Crocus, Little Red Riding Hood, Mexicana, Orange Poppy, Red Poppy,, Silhouette, and Sun Porch.
