Pottery and ceramics have been an important part of human culture for thousands of years. From prehistoric storage jars to tiles on the space shuttles, pottery and ceramics have played a key role in innumerable human endeavors.

The Process:
(Explore our shop for more information about the process of making ceramics).

Throwing clay is the process of using a rapidly rotating pottery wheel and other tools to form a lump of clay into a beautiful ceramic piece.
The procedure involves placing a lump of clay in the exact center of the wheel head, creating an opening in the exact center of the clay. The size of the opening is gradually increased and the sides are pulled up until a cylinder is formed. A sufficient amount of clay is left for the bottom of the piece. The sides and mouth of the piece are then shaped, and the piece is removed from the wheel. Once it dries to a leatherhard stage, the potter can then go about trimming away excess clay, adding handles, spouts or attachments, and carving, cutting, or re-shaping the piece. An experienced potter can make this process look easy, but it takes many years of dedication and long hours of practice to become efficient at throwing and creating balanced, beautiful pieces.

Absolutely beautiful! These mugs are just the right size and the colors are beautiful and artistically applied. I love the brownish orange mottled band that looks very earthy and almost wood grain like, and the dark blue compliments it gorgeously. The Danko medallion finishes the look to perfection. Very unique, and highly attractive. The cups were packaged attentively and with the utmost care, and arrived in perfect shape. We are extremely happy with them. Thank you so much.

I am fairly new to Etsy but I am amazed at the wonderful craftsmanship. I was looking for a coffee cup that would be unique to me and I found it in a craftsman named Danko .it arrived quickly and intact all the way from Bulgaria.

I ordered this mug for my husband for Christmas. He is a hard one to shop for and this mug just had to make the cut. It did. He was so surprised and happy with the colors of the mug and craftsmanship. I think he is actually going to leave it on his desk so he can admire it. It hasn't made it to the kitchen yet. Daniel Danko was a pleasure to work with and was very accommodating with a last minute purchase I made so it could be packaged with an order I had already placed. The packaging was outstanding. It must have taken me ten minutes to carefully remove the wrappings to find all of the pieces safely snuggled in their individual nests. Thank you, Daniel.
