Welcome! You’ve found the original Color Pop Petite Planter. :) High five!

This planter is approximately 4 inches across and 3 inches deep. Note that the diameter measurement is taken from the inside (or usable space) of the pot. I have been perfecting the design for over a year so that the planter is the proper shape for maximum functionality.

It is glazed in Turquoise Blue up to the twine holes. The lip and the interior of the pot is bare clay. This creates an interesting visual contrast between the smooth gloss of the glaze and the natural texture of the clay.

The twine for hanging is included. A simple knot has been made, which is perfect for hanging as is, but also allows for untying and re-tying to whatever length is desired. This way, the planter can be altered to fit the space that is available.

Jute twine was chosen for this planter for its aesthetic appeal as well as its natural quality, which fits with the renewable and green values of Function Pottery. Also, remember that, as a natural fiber, water can adversely affect it, so please keep the soil level below the twine so that it stays dry.

As with any planter without a drainage hole, place a a few pebbles or some gravel in the planter prior to adding your greenery. This will keep the roots up out of any residual water, and help to keep your plant healthy. :)

The plant is not included, but it is called "Dusty Miller" if you would like to find the same plant at your local greenhouse.

***You will not receive this exact planter; this is an example of the planter you will receive. Variations do occur due to the handmade process, but that's what makes handmade so great!

Handmade pottery requires a bit more care than commercial ware. This is mostly because it is a real bummer to have a handmade piece you love break. It is oftentimes more costly and harder to replace as well, and the replacement won't be exactly the same as the loved and lost piece.

If you have purchased a hanging planter, please follow the care instructions in the listing and on the included care card. The jute is a renewable and biodegradable natural fiber, and is beautiful while aligning with the goal of making Function Pottery as green as possible. As a natural fiber though, water is not its friend, so please keep the soil line below the jute so that it stays dry.

As the hanging planters are designed for indoor use, they do not have drainage holes. Dirty water on floors is not appealing. Root rot is easily sidestepped, however, by placing a thin layer of pebbles, gravel, or crushed seashells in the planter prior to adding your greenery. This will keep the roots up out of any residual water, and help to keep your plant healthy.

My work is microwave safe; however, handmade pottery should not be subjected to thermal shock. Thermal shock is when something goes from very hot to very cold quickly, and vice versa. For example, a bowl full of tasty treats that was just in the refrigerator or freezer should not be microwaved. Or, a mug full of hot tea or coffee should not be placed in the refrigerator or freezer in order to cool the liquid more quickly. What happens in scenarios like this is, parts of the work heat up or cool down at uneven rates. This puts too much strain on the piece and can cause it to crack. Which, as stated before, is a real bummer.

My work can handle a dishwasher; what it cannot handle is being up against other items in the dishwasher and vibrating against something else for a whole wash and rinse cycle. For this reason, I recommend handwashing your handmade ceramic wares. If you really like using a dishwasher, just be sure that the handmade pieces are not in danger of knocking against other items during the process.

Orders will ship within the allotted windows specified on each listing. Most orders ship in 1-5 days. Please send me a message if you need an item in a certain timeframe.

Each order is packed with new, clean Kraft paper. The entire packaging is recyclable. While giftwrap is not offered, each order includes a postcard-sized artist statement card. I would be happy to write a gift note to the recipient on said card. Please leave a Note To Seller with what you would like to have written.

Please see each listing for expected ship times. Every item listed is Ready Made, meaning that one of said item is ready to go. That being said, the product photos are of one item of that type; they are not re-shot for each new batch of work. So your particular piece will not be exactly as shown, and measurements are close, but approximate. Please allow for the variation that defines the handmade process when placing your order.

Most orders will ship via Priority Mail. Some smaller items qualify for First Class Mail, but will take longer to arrive. For orders of multiple items, please note that oftentimes, the final shipping cost will be slightly less than the one you are asked to pay up front. This is because each item has size and weight parameters attached to it, and the system does its best to figure out what it will cost to ship both items. Usually though, the system assumes each item will be shipped in its own box and incures its own charge. I can often pack orders of multiples together, reducing the overall shipping cost. If this can happen, I will refund the shipping overage to your method of payment at the time the order is physically packed and weighed.

For international orders, please note that many countries will impose a VAT tax or customs charge for retail items being brought into the country. I cannot estimate what that cost will be for your order as each country is different and variations occur within each country. These taxes/charges are imposed once the item arrives and must be paid in order for the package to be released to the recipient. I also cannot mark your order as a "Gift" in order to circumvent this tax. I am legally obligated to report package contents accurately.

Please take time to fully read each listing, as exchanges are not accepted and returns are only on a very limited and individually reviewed basis. I work hard to make sure that my work aligns with the images you see, with a small margin for variation as each item is made completely by hand and without the use of molds. If an item simply won't work, please request a return and I will review it. Items must arrive unbroken for the return to be accepted. Ceramics must be packed with plenty of cushioning so that they do not shift in transit. For a return, only the cost of the item itself will be refunded, not the initial or return shipping. Those funds went to the carrier for the service they provided, not to me.

Wholesale inquiries are welcome. My line sheet can be found on Etsy Wholesale, or you can email me at functionpottery [!at] gmail.com for my linesheet and policies.

I do not take on custom work. As Function Pottery consists of only me, I have to make sure I can meet demands for the line of work I have already developed. Custom orders can take weeks of time and several attempts and, often, failures in testing and tweaking to get right. I very much understand the desire to have a certain item made, and I hope you are able to find the potter that makes it and can provide you with what you desire. :)

I want you to be happy with your entire shopping experience with Function Pottery. I hope you are, and if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to message or email me.

Thank you for making my dream come true. :)

Frequently asked questions about FunctionPottery

I would be happy to discuss a wholesale account with you. I am a seller on Etsy Wholesale, so feel free to find my linesheet there. If you are not a buyer on Etsy Wholesale, please email me at functionpottery@gmail.com for information.
Gift wrapping is not available; however, each order is packed in clean, recyclable brown kraft paper and includes a business card and a postcard-sized artist card. If you would like a special message included with your order, please leave the verbiage as a note to the seller and I will include your message as a handwritten note.
Once an order has transitioned to the postal service, its care and and transit time is out of my control. It is an unfortunate but growing trend for packages to be stolen from front porches and doorsteps. Please ensure that the shipping address is safe for packages to be delivered to during business hours. Extra insurance is placed on each order, so if your package has been marked Delivered but is nowhere to be found, please first check with your local post office to rule out a lost package or one that is being held at the post office. Once this step has been taken and no resolution was made, please contact me via Etsy Messages. Thank you for your understanding.
Handthrown ceramics enjoy an inherent quality of individualism, meaning that each piece will vary slightly from the one before and after. For many, this quality is one that makes handthrown ceramics so desirable. You are literally receiving a piece that no one else has. As a production potter, my skillset allows the pieces to be very very close to one another, but each one is indeed unique. This means that the dimensions for each listing are averages. Wiggle room for the individual nature of the work must be afforded. If you need an item to be an exact dimension, please message me with your needs to see what I have in stock. I do not take custom orders with exact dimension needs.
I take care to thoroughly photograph my work and I make sure that listings are clear with regards to possible variations, and that the photos show a piece representative of the work, not the exact piece you will receive. This is inherent in the handmade ceramic process. Along with that, ceramics are very easily broken in transit, and great care and understanding of ceramics goes into proper packaging. For these reasons, returns and exchanges come with caveats. If you are unhappy with your purchase, you may ship it back to me for a refund of the original purchase price (minus the shipping charge), and the return shipping is not covered. The item must arrive safely and in one piece. If it is broken during transit, no refund will be made.
Due to the cost of shipping and the potential for an endless loop of exchanges of handmade works, exchanges are not accepted.
We all know the cost to ship isn't fun to see on an order. It is, however, part of online shopping. My listings are set up to automatically calculate the correct shipping amount based on the weight of the item and the distance it must travel. For orders of a single item, rest assured you are not being over charged for shipping.

For orders of multiple items, the system tends to think each item will ship individually and charges accordingly. Often, I can consolidate shipping down to one box. If that is the case, I will refund the difference in shipping multiples back to your original form of payment at the time the order is packed and weighed. We both want you to receive what you want and not be charged more than your fair share. :)
