Beautiful example of Haitian metal art sculpture made from recycled oil drum.
Twin sisters or close girl friends skipping through an idilic life. They are dressed in georgeous belted dresses and wearing beautiful dangle earrings
The piece measures 24" across and is made from either the top or base of a recycled oil drum, it has a wonderful patina of brown, silver and bronze.
Oil drums are their raw material. The process of converting oil drums into sculptures is both a tribute to man's imagination and resourcefulness in the face of economic need. The artist first removes both ends from the drum, which are used to create smaller scuptures the drum is them stuffed with dried foliage and set on fire to remove oil residue. When cool it is sliced down the side and flattened into a 4'x6' metal canvas. The artist then draws the image with chalk and with hammer and chisel the design is cut out and the sculpture is born.
