Description

Think Joan Crawford goes rockabilly.... This superb suit was made at the iconic Utah Tailoring Mills and it is the epitomy of classic 1940s style. AND it is a good larger size!
It is a two piece wool gabardine suit. The skirt is a brown princess seamed A-line shape and is unlined. It has a side zip with a nice shell button.
The coat is a boxy trapeze shape and is meant to appear roomy on the wearer. Some might call this a swing style coat as well. The body of the coat is a taupe/grey with crème, brown, and aqua suiting stripes. There is a subtle peach undertone stripe within the taupe/grey areas.
The contrast on the coat is the same brown wool that the skirt is made of.
Besides the shape of the coat, there are some amazing visual features happening here: the retro western yoke style line on the back, the patch pockets which are wider at the bottom and are flanged on the sides so that they appear 3D on the coat, and the dramatic sculpted shoulder padding....it is extreme and definitely makes a statement.
The coat has a lovely peach crepe de chine lining, and there are cape straps on the front inside so that the coat can be worn CAPE-LIKE!
I just imagine a very ballsy lady running a cattle ranch wearing this suit...

For its age, the suit is in good condition. There are some super tiny pin holes here and there: a couple on a shoulder and a couple on a sleeve, a couple on the skirt, and they are all almost imperceptible.
If you are interested, please ask for pictures of these, and I will happily send those.
There simply are not enough images available on the listing to show those AND to capture all the uniqueness of this garment.
I would be happy to do some subtle and tiny darning before sending - at no extra cost. Just let me know. And if left alone, those pinholes would be fine. That decision comes down to personal preference.

I have photographed the suit on a size 8 dress form, and it is big on it. I believe the suit would fit a modern size 10/12. And the coat is so roomy, it would probably work on a size 14.

Skirt:
Waist measured flat from side to side: 14 1/2" (so that is 29" all around).
Hip measured flat from side seam to side seam: 22" (so that is 44" all around).
Length measured from bottom of waistband to hem: 28 1/4" (with 3" of hem inside).

Coat:
Sleeve length measured from center back at neck to shoulder seam (9") and out to sleeve hem: 33"
Length from back neckline to hem: 37"
Because of the swing shape, it doesn't make sense to measure the bust, hip, etc. But if you want it, please ask and I will.
