A beautiful antique, hand-coloured map of the British possessions in the Mediterranean from a very valuable atlas, issued by English cartographer John Tallis around 1851. Adding to the appeal of the map are the exquisite borders and the hand-coloured outlines around various territories.

Aside from very detailed cartographical information, the map also offers delightful illustrations of Gibraltar, Vathi in Ithaca, Valetta, Corfu, and two untitled drawings of ships.

The John Tallis maps are highly sought after for their intricate ornamental borders and beautiful vignettes of local scenes. The finely engraved maps are hand-coloured and are visually stunning. It’s what many people imagine an old map to look like.

The map is blank on the back and is in very good condition, highly suitable for framing.

This an original map, not a reproduction! Bananastrudel sells only originals.

It will be sent to you folded as issued in an acid-free sleeve with sturdy backing.

Size of map: approx. 11" x 14.25"
