Description

An antique makeup compact turned into a piece of art. It contains paper ephemera and Swarovski crystals embedded in several layers of encaustic wax. (Encaustic wax is a mixture of Beeswax and Damar resin.)

Measures approximately 2½ inches around when closed and 5 inches long when open.

The compact can still be opened and closed but care should be taken to not scratch the wax surface. It does not stand up on it's own so you may wish to use a small plate stand or a similar item to display this piece.

~ Small scratches, fibers and other such "imperfections" are intentional as they add to the character of this piece. ~

*Caring for Your Mixed Media Encaustic
For several months after the completion of this piece the wax/resin will go through a curing process in which the surface continues to harden. During this time moisture and impurities may work their way to the surface and cause a slight haze. If you wish, you can restore the shine by buffing with a soft cotton cloth in one direction. Do not use cleaners or solvents. As time goes by and the wax/resin has had a chance to cure and harden it will keep its polished look.

Encaustic wax is stable between temperatures of approximately 40-110°F. The wax melts and runs at 162°F. Do not hang this piece in direct sunlight as this may fade the colors. Very hot days can soften wax somewhat but will cause no real damage. Avoid freezing and extremely hot temperatures.
