Coach New York City Pre Creed Tan Leather Watermelon Satchel Kiss lock Bag 9441
This is known as a Coach Watermelon Satchel when it was sold in the 1970's era Coach Catalog which was years after this ‘Pre-Creed’ Satchel was manufactured. This is how the 1970's catalog described this style of bag:
Watermelon Satchel- This early Coach classic combines best features of a zippered satchel and an open tote. Handy outside coin purse is leather covered, leather lined. Industrial zipper is solid brass. Extra pocket inside."
H 10" X L 13.5" X D 3"

This Kiss Lock Satchel and Tote was the product of Bonnie Cashin's kiss lock design and has become Bonnie Cashin's signature Coach bag for collectors.
SIGNIFICANCE OF PRE -CREED COACH .
Most purchasers of Coach Bags are familiar with the Coach Creed that is usually stamped on the inside of the bag stating "THIS IS A COACH BAG. IT IS MADE OUT OF A COMPLETELY NATURAL GLOVE TANNED COWHIDE. THE SCARS, SCRATCHES, VEINS AND WRINKLES ARE NATURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FULL GRAIN LEATHERS". The information under the creed varies depending on the year the bag was made. However, this creed was not stamped into the bag by Coach until the 1970's.
Coach began manufacturing bags in 1941 and from that time through the 1960's Coach bags had either a metal identifier tag, or simple impression of the Coach logo, no creed no serial #'s. This is a pre creed bag. Pre- creed Coach bags were still made in New York City but due to their scarcity they are even more sought after than the Coach bags manufactured in New York City in the 1970's and 1980's that have the Coach creed stamp and “Made in New York City” stamped under the creed.
“New York City bags” are one of the most sought after Coach products by collectors. Pre-Creed bags are even more sought after primarily because they are scarce. These are some of the highest quality Coach products. "New York City" bags were made in the original Coach factory in New York City that operated from the late 1960's through the mid 1980's. Some, but not all, of the Coach bags produced during this era were designed by the well known American designer Bonnie Cashin. Consequently, when you buy a New York City Coach bag you are buying more than an accessory, you are making a potential investment.
The overall condition of this purse is good. It has double leather handles, brass tone metal, and the infamous kiss lock coin purse on the outside. It also has one inside slip pocket. However, there are two very apparent ink dots on the bag that need to be removed. There is also some wear. Each handle shows signs they were held dearly by their previous owner. Some of the kiss lock is worn. There is also some scuffing and a small pot on the front of the bag. Please see photos and zoom in for closer inspection. Because this is a pre creed bag it has no registration number.
