Description

This is an antique Edwardian-era purse from the early 1900s - estimated 1900 to 1910 era, most likely made in France. This evening bag is covered on both sides by cut steel beads in colors of gold, silver, and bronze. It has an elaborate fringe on the bottom. The cut steel beads on the purse body and fringe catch the light and add a bit of sparkle.

The body of the purse is about 4 1/2 inches wide and 5 3/4 inches high with an additional three inches of fringe at the bottom.

The fringe is intact, and there are no missing beads. Where the two sides are joined together, there's a narrow line of stitching on each side. This is normal for this type of purse.

This evening bag features a chain handle, push plunger closure (just push the little round button on the frame to open), and a patterned metal frame. The chain can be doubled, and it will have an approximate six-inch drop, or it can be pulled up and used as a single chain handle with an approimate ten-inch drop.

Inside, the bag is lined with gold silk charmeuse, which has an antique scalloped lace trim in dark gold all the way around the top. The silk lining, the antique lace, and the little metal bow on the front of the frame are all replacements, professionally done about twenty years ago. The purse had no lining when I first acquired it. The restorer did an excellent job with the lining.

Genuine antique purse - this would be a nice addition to an vintage purse collection.
