artists markers

This poster incorporates many of the symbols of our lives and is an example of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. It is ironic how people interpret this work. At a street festival, I sold a print to a man who proudly identified himself as being "in the 1%." He promptly overpaid me--and refused any change. I myself believe that the income inequality that has come to exist is harmful to our democracy and embodies Gordon Gekko's classic line from the film "Wall Street": "Greed is good!" That is not a value I share. This was completed in 2012 using artists' markers. The print is 11 x 14 inches.

This print is not a mass-produced product. It is my take on the world I see; a frequent response from viewers is: "Oh wow! Look at that." The completed artwork took many months of intensive work, and the symbols in the final version were not the ones I expected to include when I started. Some symbols were quite difficult for me to render but were well worth the effort when I saw their power.

Symbols has been produced with equal care on a high-end digital press and printed on 100# crystal white vellum (double–thick cover stock).
