Description

This lidded vessel, hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel, is a "Yunnan Steampot" steamer. A specialty of Herron Avenue Studios, it is modeled on the pots used in China’s Yunnan province, which is known for its cuisine.

Its form resembles a casserole dish with a central chimney or spout. To use the Steampot, place it over a saucepan of water, so that the pot sits snugly inside the pan’s rim. When the water boils, steam will enter through the central spout, cooking the food inside the Steampot. It is excellent for one-pot meals and for cooking perfect rice. For folks who prefer not to use a microwave, the Steampot also makes heating leftovers a breeze with no danger of burning or sticking to the pan. It's a great gift for anyone who likes to experiment in the kitchen and also looks beautiful on the shelf.

This pot is handmade from start to finish by Todd Johnson of Herron Avenue Studios. It measures 10 inches wide by 6 inches tall (including the handles) and can comfortably hold 6 cups. The clay used is a proprietary blend unique to our studio, buff to rosy orange in color with mineral flecks throughout for texture. The glaze is a matte Mineral Green layered with glossier brown and pale blue for a rich, organic effect. The process of assembling, dipping, and spraying each piece by hand creates all sorts of natural imperfections, so no two are alike. All the glazes used are lead-free and completely food-safe.

Each Steampot is shipped with illustrated instructions, information, and a recipe to get you started.

** Please note **

* All made-to-order pieces will ship within a maximum of six weeks.

* Each piece is thrown and glazed by hand, so the one you receive will differ a bit from the one pictured.

* Yunnan Steampots are available in our three standard glaze treatments: Mineral Green, Coffee Brown, and Buttermilk White. If you don't see your preferred glaze color in our shop, feel fee to message us.

* And if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
