The grid of New York City, hand drawn one square at a time.
Inspired by the community of The 100 Day Project, fostered by The Great Discontent, Lauren Harms decided to divide up the grid of New York City and tackle it one square at a time. @gridthegrid was designed to utilize the format of Instagram - where everyone participating would be posting daily. The 3 column grid, split into three sections 11 rows tall, meant producing 3 unique maps. Black and white ink, watercolor pencil, and cut paper with found imagery. Each map has 33 squares covering the entirety of the island of Manhattan. The same reference material was used for each map, so all of the corresponding squares match.
Work from the @gridthegrid project are for sale through this shop. Compiled, full maps as well as individual squares are available in a variety of sizes. Original squares measure 4x4” and have been scanned at the highest resolution.
Prints are available in 4x4”, 7x7”, 10x10”, and custom sizes.
Dimensions measure size of artwork, a border is added for mounting.
Printed on archival, acid free inkjet papers.
Prints are shipped flat in plastic sleeve with back board. Orders ship USPS in 1-3 business days.
The original pieces will go on sale July 15, 2015, in separate listings, after the project is complete. Be sure to check back if interested!
