Antique postcard, please see Item Description

On sale! This rare and highly collectible antique postcard features signed artwork by Arthur Thiele, a popular German artist. This is a Happy New Year card, with a dark, moonlit illustration of dwarves in pointy hats.

This is also a souvenir from World War I / WWI, sent on December 28 in about 1919 from a soldier to a woman in St. Louis. It has no postmark and was probably sent by military mail. "I wish I could be with you all New Years for I guess everyone in America will have a good time," he writes, "but I will have to make the best of it over here, which is not so bad after all."

This is a very early postcard, with a divided back and no border. The postcard is dark and shows four dwarves with red toadstools, a horseshoe, and a four-leaf clover (on the left-hand dwarf's hat). In the top right corner in gold ink, it says Beste Neujahrsgrusse; it's signed Arth. Thiele in the lower left.

The postcard is in good condition with a little corner and edge wear (especially top right), but no creases or tears and little yellowing. There is a line (a scratch?) on the left center by the edge, but it's not really a crease.
