This Ishi hand painted rock is #9 of the Galaxy series with a matte finish turquoise blue background and band, and star designs that are enhanced with metallic gold and silver. The medium is acrylic paint and the Stone has been treated with an acrylic fixative to seal the stone. It is signed, numbered, and dated by me, artist Delores Malcomson. I sign my work "DMIshi" (DM are my initials, and the word" Ishi" means rock or stone, in Japanese), with the copyright symbol, the date, and the code for the name of the design, in this case "GX" for Galaxy, and 9 for the number of the stone.

DESCRIPTION OF ISHI STONES: Ishi Stones are common river and beach stones that have been transformed into works of fine art, by me, artist Delores Malcomson. I have taken the art of painting on stone to a new level, with my original designs and color finishes. I work my designs all around the stones, enveloping them, incorporating the stone and design together into multifaceted, three-dimensional artworks. In the spirit of traditional Japanese art, the whole of the design is not seen immediately, but is discovered as the stone is turned and viewed from different angles. Impressed by the fact that simplicity and essence of nature, combined with the elaborate are always reflected in Japanese art, the name of "Ishi" (which translates stone or rock, in Japanese) was chosen to represent my work. The challenge of taking an object, that is generally considered to be of little interest or value, and turning it into a work of art is what inspires me to bring life and beauty to an otherwise ignored element of nature.
