Custom Made-To-Order CNC Machined 25 Piece Assembly Grade 5 Titanium Wedding Rings for Men.

My rings are not cast or molded. They are carved out of Grade 5 Titanium Alloy (6AL-4V) using CNC Machines.

The Story and The Processes:

(PROCESS UPDATES -- Due to relocation and a new job in a new shop, all of my parts are CNC Machined using a 3-4 Axis CNC Mill, not a Lathe or 5 Axis Mill, by myself. Prototypes were made in the following manner.)

I have always loved Triangles and Hexagons. While studying geometric shapes one day, I had the idea to make a ring using triangular shapes, essentially wrapped around a wedding band. I was getting married and all the rings I had looked at were so boring and I didn't feel like I would find one that matched my personality. I decided to take my idea to the drawing board.

I started with a simple sketch on a piece of scratch paper at work. Then, with my experience as a 3D modeler and Machinist, I worked at creating the design on SolidWorks. It took about 3 months before I had the design perfected and fully representative of what I had first envisioned. Several revisions were made, discarded, and recreated to finally achieve this. I soon lost track of hours I put into the design.

Next came the process of programming in MasterCam, the Software used to tell the CNC Machines how to remove excess material from a predetermined piece of stock material, leaving behind the desired 3 dimensional object I had previously created in virtual 3D space. This programming process is unique to every part cut out in the CNC machining world. This step also took several approaches of different cutting options being considered and discarded before the final program was ready to test out in the CNC Machines.

Setting up a CNC Machine can take several hours to make sure the tools will cut properly without breaking or removing too much material, adhering to the tight tolerances needed to maintain assembly functionality.

The 12 individual and independent Triangles are then cut out of a 1/4" by 3/4" diameter disc of billet Titanium, in a (was a 5 Axis, now is I have just 3 and 4 Axis) CNC Mill. This is almost a thing of beauty, seeing these parts take shape in this machine as the tools rapidly, yet meticulously remove material leaving behind an incredibly precise duplicate of the piece made just before it. The machine takes over an hour for just one Triangle to be made.

The inner ring starts in a full bar stock of 1" diameter titanium, and is turned to the final shape in a CNC Lathe with live tooling capabilities that also add the 12 holes from the outside diameter of the part. After being removed from the Lathe, the rings then are set up in the same 5 Axis Mill that is used to cut out the Triangles, and the inside countersink surfaces are created to leave space for the 12 surgical grade Stainless Steel screws needed to assemble the final product together.

All machined surfaces are truly unique in that, only one method in the world can achieve this finish. For this reason, I hesitate to sand (brush), buff, polish, media blast, or tumble my products. However, those finishes are also beautiful in their own ways, and will be offered upon request.

Because each ring is so different and expensive to make, I do not carry them in inventory. Instead, each ring is Machined-to-order in my shop, by myself. Due to my full time job teaching machining technology at a local college, my work load varies, and therefore ship time could be anywhere from 1 week to 2 months. I will keep in touch with my customers to let them know where their ring is in the whole process of creation.

The Titanium Propeller Sprinner is fantastic. Trevor puts incredible care into every detail. If you want a custom high end spinner this is the one to get. I recommend the blue tips, it adds color to the spin. By the way Trevor took the time during the manufacturing process to send me pictures as the build progressed, great customer service. Thanks for a great spinner, I am completely satisfied and highly recommend this spinner.
