Description

Katara- Pink Tourmaline Ring, alternate engagement ring, pink gemstone, promise ring, October birthstone ring, tourmaline stacking ring

Diamond Alternative, October birthstone: Gorgeous 5mm natural untreated pink Tourmaline gemstone ring set in solid easy care Argentium silver- no plating.

**The Stats:
Grade: AAA grade Tourmaline gemstone.

Size: 5mm in diameter size; 6mm or just about 1/4" across the setting. On a US penny coin that would be the measure from the top of the coin to Lincoln's eyebrow.

Shape: Round shape.

Color: Clear natural tourmaline pink color.

Cut: Brilliant cut; faceted.

Clarity: Clear and clean.

Surface: Smooth vitreous surface; well polished.

Gem quality. Flawless.

Tourmaline is classed as a semi-precious gemstone.

1.8g or .06oz in weight. That would be just about the weight of a US penny coin.
Just about .5ct

US finger size 7.

A US size 7 ring measures 54.3mm or about 2 3/16" in circumference. To determine your ring size if you do not know it consult http://www.order-of-the-engineer.org/wp-content/uploads/Ringsizer.pdf A size 7 seems to be about average for women in the US.

**Gemstone facts:
Tourmaline is a semi-precious gemstone of great utility in jewelry. It comes in just about every color of the rainbow.

There is a story - apparently Egyptian in origin - that the colors were obtained by Tourmaline on its journey from the center of the earth passing over a rainbow. The colors were taken up by tourmaline leaving the rainbow bereft of its colors. That's why the rainbow avoids touching the earth now!

With a Mohs Hardness of 7 to 7.5 the stone is quite durable.
Its Refractive index is: 1.624 to 1.644 which is very sparkly.

Many gemstones are heat treated. No disclosure on treatments was made from the vendor regarding Katara's stone. This should mean that her color is natural.

Tourmaline is used as a birthstone for the month of October.

**Silver Facts:
The newer tarnish resistant silvers: Argentium® Silver, Continuum® Silver and Sterlium Plus® Silver are designated ".930". Sterling silver is designated ".925"

Even though Argentium® Silver , Continuum® Silver, or Sterlium Plus® Silver almost never needs much care, I always send along an anti-tarnish tab and a polishing cloth with your order. The tab should be kept with your ring when it is being stored. It will not prevent tarnish but will inhibit it from forming.

Sterling Silver, Argentium® Silver, Continuum® Silver, and Sterlium Plus® Silver are all nickel free and lead free and will not irritate you skin.
