Materials

Polymer clay, Brass wire, Gold plated split ring, Bonded polyester cord

I sculpted this seahorse pendant out of coral pink and cream polymer clay, and it is strung on a cream-colored adjustable cord. I worked the patterns within the clay; there is no paint or other secondary surface material on any of these pieces. I made all of these pieces this summer. Like most of my nature-themed jewelry this piece is a little bit abstract and imaginative.

The seahorse is a shade of coral pink that is more orange than red, and from a distance the piece looks like a light orange or intense peach color.

This item and the other seahorses I have listed here on Etsy are very rugged. I use strong, good-quality polymer clay, and this seahorse is thick and sturdy enough to hold up to lots of normal jewelry use. Approximate pendant dimensions: 3" (7 1/2 cm) long, 1 1/8" (almost 3 cm) wide across from the tip of the nose to the back of the head, and 1/2" (over 2 cm) deep at its thickest.

The double brass loop embedded in the top of the head doubles as an armature down through the neck of the seahorse. A gold-plated brass split ring attaches the hook to the cord. The cord is bonded polyester, which is more resistant to fraying than most types of cord slippery enough to make good slipknot material.

To wear long, medium, short, or choker length:

At its longest the cord is 27 inches (69 cm) long. It adjusts to medium-short lengths by pulling the cord ends. From that point the necklace can be adjusted down to very short and choker lengths by pulling the cord at the back of the neck while pulling the cord ends forward. Pushing the cord ends back and pulling on the sides of the cord makes it longer again.
