Description

I have lived in Jerome, Arizona for almost six years now, having moved here from the east coast. The spirit of the Southwest inhabits one's soul very quickly here, and this necklace more or less created itself as I sat in my studio overlooking the high mountain desert, listening to Native American flute music and burning sweetgrass incense. It was almost as if the spirits of those indigenous peoples who were here before me were carried to me on the wind (which, here, sings to me almost daily - sometimes the lullaby of a soft and subtle breeze, and at other times an insistent, moaning gale that rattles our windows and sends a chill), and guided my hands as they chose and arranged the beads for this piece.

WIND SPIRIT features a unique pendant of Drusy Agate in a rich brown that reminds me of root beer (or maybe I should say sarsaparilla!) with a faceted Citrine accent, set in .925 Sterling Silver. I created the necklace around it using chips of sparkling golden Citrine and various shades of Amber, and beads of Turquoise and Fossil Stone, with accents of Sterling Silver. The necklace is just shy of 23" long, and closes with a simple silver-plated hook clasp.

What I was listening to as I created this piece: SPIRIT OF THE WIND (a compilation of Native American songs on flute and reeds)

What I was burning: Juniper Ridge SWEETGRASS wildcrafted incense

ABOUT THE STONES:

DRUSY AGATE - Balance; truth; healing; joy

Drusy literally means “covered by a large number of minute crystals”. The term Drusy refers to a gem that has this specific type of gem formation. Drusy can bring a joyous healing energy, promote creativity, and lessen fatigue and exhaustion.

Agate is a grounding stone that helps bring about emotional, physical and intellectual balance. Psychologically, it gently facilitates acceptance of one’s self and builds self-confidence. Intellectually, agate enhances mental function by improving concentration, perception and analytical abilities, and encourages speaking one’s own truth. Emotionally, agate can help one to overcome bitterness and negativity. It heals inner anger, fostering love and the courage to start again. It is useful for any kind of inner trauma, and aids spiritual growth. Agate has been used in treating disorders of the digestive system, eyes and uterus. It is cleansing to the lymphatic system and the pancreas, strengthens blood vessels and heals skin disorders.

CITRINE - Manifestation; personal will; mental clarity; creativity

Citrine is a highly energizing and beneficial stone, one of only two minerals on Earth known to hold no negative energy. It is directly related to the sun, and can guide us in utilizing our creative energy, steering events in a positive direction, developing inner calm and security, and dispelling negative feelings. Its energy increases motivation and promotes physical activity, which in turn improves digestion and helps the cleansing organs. Citrine may also work as a detoxifier for the blood. Citrine is sometimes referred to as the merchant's stone, it has been used to help acquire and maintain a state of wealth. It helps clear the intellect and emotions, and is used to dispel anger, open the mind and stimulate mental resolutions. It is said to aid in digestion and promotion of blood circulation.

AMBER - Light; love; warmth; clarification; healing

Amber is not a stone, but the fossilized resin of coniferous trees dating back approximately 50 million years. Organic matter or air bubbles can often be easily seen. Amber originates from the Baltic region, particularly along the coasts of Poland and the former USSR. In Greek mythology, Amber was formed when Phaeton, son of Helios (the sun god), was killed by lightning - grief turned his sisters to poplar trees and their tears were drops of amber. Often warm to the touch, Amber was considered sacred in classical times because it was believed to contain the very essence of life itself—the animating principle. It emits a strong magnetic flow, and is thought to bring unification of body, mind, and spirit. Amber has long been regarded as highly sensual and romantic, and is worn to attract love and increase enjoyment of pleasurable activities. It is a calming substance that eases stress, improves decision making and strengthens memory. Amber has been used as a symbol for renewal of marriage vows and to assure promises. Physically, amber is a strong healer with the capacity to draw disease from the body, allowing it rebalance and heal itself. It is worn as a general protector of health and to relieve or cure existing conditions.

TURQUOISE - Wholeness; communication; spiritual expansion

Turquoise is a highly beneficial stone, attracting love, protecting its wearer from harm and enhancing one’s ability to see into the future. It is unique in that it truly reflects the individual wearing it by tuning into that person’s energies and transmitting them back into the world. It is a great aid to communication. Because Turquoise contains elements of both the earth, where it was formed, and the sky, whose color it resembles, it assists us in achieving our goals and realizing our full potential. It is considered to be a healer of the spirit, and a provider of calm and peace of mind. It induces wisdom and understanding and can provide strength and protection during vision quests. It may also enhance trust and kindness and bring communication and creative skills to emotional situations. Turquoise is known well from North to Central America, Tibet, China, and the Mid-East, and is a sacred stone to many American native tribes. Navajos used ground turquoise in sand paintings to bring on the rain. North and Central American tribes placed the stone in tombs to protect the deceased. It is also revered as a protective stone and a bestower of goodness for the living. Pueblos laid it beneath the floor of newly built homes as an offering to the gods. Apache shaman had turquoise in their medicine bag for power in healing. On a bow, in some tribes, it was thought to ensure the accuracy to hit its mark. As a healing stone, turquoise is especially beneficial for the respiratory and immune systems. It has also been used in the treatment of headaches, regeneration of tissue, and stress-related skin disorders.

FOSSIL STONE - Communication; creativity

Fossil Stone is thought to aid business transactions or business matters in general. It fosters communication, provides motivation, inspires creativity, and helps to give direction & purpose.

STERLING SILVER - Balance; intellect

Sterling Silver is a metal in tune with the energies of the body. It is especially beneficial to the brain, because it improves the transmission of nerve impulses and improves memory. It helps to balance the functions of both sides of the brain and enhances ones ability to approach intellectual problems.
