Antique Chinese Nuo folk opera mask of Tudi Gong, circa late 19th Century. Polychromed wood, with nice patina. Measures 11" H x 6-3/4" W x 4" D. See photos for condition. Tudi Gong, the God of soil and grains, is one of the main characters in the Nuo opera, usually represented with a smiling face, and beard (in this case the beard is missing; only a couple of stubble threads remain - but holes are visible where the hair was fastened). This mask was purchased from Elliott Bay Antiques in Seattle, in the 1990s.

Vintage condition. Antique and vintage items are generally not flawless. The condition often includes patina, age wear and evidence of usage, some of which exactly contribute to the charm of a piece. I strive to describe the condition accurately and provide detailed images. I encourage you to contact me if you need further details.
