Old Vintage Mexican Zarape - Sarape.
This vintage zarape is possibly from the 1940s. The zarape measures approx.
64" x 96" It is woven in a wool and cotton blend. Given its age is in great condition but does have some slight staining, the fringing is also in great shape, see photograph. The predominant color is heather gray but it has a rainbow of ombre stripes in shades of browns, blues, pinks and greens. This weaving is from northern Mexico possibly Saltillo, but these blankets were made all over this region.
It would work great as a Southwestern decor piece in a living or great room, as a bedspread or throw for a bedroom, a car, beach or picnic blanket or even as a piece of wearable art (poncho, cloak or coat). These blankets were originally used under saddles, camp covers all round utility pieces.
