Commission FAQS:
Pet portraits are currently offered in acrylics - painted on a deep acid-free acrylic gesso stretched canvas and come finished with a wire hanger on back - no framing necessary with this museum quality canvas!
Price range and dimensions of your portraits-
Canvas sizes are currently priced at: $225 for a 12x12, $375 for 20x20 (optional larger sizes available)
Can I have more than one pet in a single portrait?
Multiple pets available for larger canvas. $75 for each additional pet, plus up-charge for increased canvas size, if needed.
What is the process for commissioning a portrait?
Email me at pawscaperart [!at] gmail.com attaching several photos and indicating which portrait option you would like to have done. If you have a favorite trait or pose you want to capture in your portrait, please make note of it here and it will be incorporated into the piece. A down payment of 50% is required for each canvas portrait. Once the portrait is finished, a digital proof is emailed, pending your approval. Completion of artwork usually takes 2-3 weeks. In some cases, they will be done much sooner. If I have a few in the pipeline it may take longer. I will let you know when you inquire.
Do you take the photos? What should I keep in mind when selecting a photo?
Photos are provided by the patron. Working from photos, it is very important to provide a high quality resolution image of the pet(s) - preferably no Smartphone pictures. And generally, the goofier, the better! Also, good lighting will show true coloring - best not to use a flash - and clear focus for great detail, especially of the eyes. A better painting will always be the result of a great photo. Also consider selecting a photo at eye level of the pet - this will avoid an awkward angle that will end up looking more like a photograph than a painting. A single painting can be made from multiple photo references. For example, if you like the way your dog's ears look in photo 1 but want his smile from photo 2, a portrait can be made combining these features. Additionally, multiple pets can be painted together using separate photos. Should you have any questions as to what photo would make the best reference, please email me for advice.
Portrait background coloring -
A bright, lively color is selected that compliments and makes the pet stand out. Keep in mind the artistic style plays off a vivid, bold background or sometimes even a subtle hint of color. Should you have a preference, you may specify a color request.
What if I want to request changes in the portrait once its finished?
Once you receive the digital proof, you may request any area of concern to be revisited at no extra charge. No portrait is considered finished until your approval has been given.
To commission, I require a contract signed by both Artist (myself) and Collector. Deposit of 50% required prior to start of artwork. Balance due upon delivery of artwork. Payment accepted via PayPal, cash or credit card.
Once final payment has been received, portraits are shipped USPS and are insured. I charge $20 for handling, plus additional shipping fees. Or arrangements can be made for pick up and ensures a safe delivery of your new artwork. (SF Bay Area only)
All final prints created from original artwork become the sole property of the artist exclusively for future use.
