Artist's Statement: The Sea and Stars Collection

“We are made of stars, seawater runs through our veins. We are all connected. This collection explores this connection—from the fractals and astral shapes making up all from nebulae to coral reefs, to the interplay of color and form illuminating lovers—skin on skin; a shape swimming for dark water—striking out for distant lands.”

About the Artist:

Award-winning poet and artist Kate Buckley was born in Kentucky in 1974. She began painting and writing poetry in early childhood, and went on to study fine arts and advertising at the University of Kentucky, where she earned her BA. She holds an MFA from Spalding University.

Her work has been pictured in fine journals such as The Adirondack Review and New Southerner, and purchased by such entities as The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Her paintings are in private collections in California, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, and New York. She is the author of A Wild Region: Poems & Paintings (Moon Tide Press, 2008) and Follow Me Down (Tebot Bach, 2009).

A classically trained artist, working primarily in acrylics and mixed media collage, Buckley’s work explores subject matter ranging from mythology to philosophical quandaries of the modern age. Her dreamlike images create worlds all their own.
