The chains are all accurately measured end to end *including the clasp*. This is industry standard so you can measure accurately when ordering. Lay the chain full length, use a measuring tape for an easy, accurate measurement, don't forget that the clasp is part of the measurement. (Doubling the chain and measuring will give you an incorrect measurement)

Sterling Silver does tarnish on a gradual basis. If it is a sudden tarnish that is most likely a chemical reaction. This can be caused by perfumes, colognes skin lotions, in addition bleach, chlorinated water, like hot tubs swimming pools, and Sulphur products. Sterling Silver is comprised of 92.5% fine silver. That is what 925 means. The other 7.5% can be different metals. Often used is copper. Copper tarnishes more quickly then other metals, but gives a color you may be used to in Sterling Silver. Some manufacturers use other metals that can cost more then copper, but don't tarnish as quickly. Commonly used in the better quality chains is Zinc. Zinc is a very hard white metal, these chains have a very white appearance. Lower quality chains, I don't carry, use nickel, often the cause of allergic reactions. I love the pendant and it is really beautiful. The only thing is that the holes for the necklace chain are very small. I had a hard time finding a chain that would fit the size of the holes. I didn't care for the black cloth necklace it came with. Shipping was great.
