Description

First off- Hi there!! My name is Hana. I'm a stone-cutter Phil has kindly allowed to show work in his shop. I've been cutting for a year now (though I've been a rockhound forever) and love a whole different set of minerals than Phil- so we thought this would be a good thing, bring some more variety to the shop! All the same policies are in place (as you can see) for these items. Enjoy!!

Petrified wood is the product of various minerals replacing the structure of fallen and buried vegetation (specifically wood and palm species). Also called fossilized wood, agatized wood (when agate is the base mineral replacing the vegetation), opalized wood (re: opal), and the more general term silicified wood. All petrified wood items are fossils (but not all fossil wood is petrified!). It endlessly amuses me when rockhounds and cutters say things like, "vintage collection petrified wood" (I am guilty of this, too!). Semantically it's pretty funny as technically all petrified wood is vintage (amiright?!).

I hand cut and polished this stone. As you can get a tiny glimpse of petrified wood's mad variety in this tiny cabochon- petrified wood is another favorite of mine for that reason. The variety is mind blowing- the different minerals possible, the replacement of wood structure either obvious or muted, and the signs of different types of interference. In this particular stone it's partially woody looking, and part like someone started blowing bubbles into the wood. In short: I dig it! And I hope you will, too. Please see scale for size!

The stone you are buying is always the stone pictured, and is roughly 25 carats. Please see my shop policies for more information, or feel free to contact me with your questions and feedback.

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day!

Phil cut this stunning green sapphire for an engagement ring I later had made. Throughout the whole process he was communicative and helpful. I was a little nervous cause I'm very out of my depth in this field, but he talked me through all my options and suggested several different cuts and gem stones. In the end we landed on this Marquise cut, called melancholia. Oh, and my fiance said yes! Thanks so much Phil, I can't recommend you enough!

Commissioned this absolutely stunning blue-green moissanite with Phil and he has thoroughly impressed me with the quality of the piece, speedy production time/delivery and wonderful customer service! Phil is an absolute pleasure to work with, quick to respond and a his work speaks for itself- he is truly a master of his craft. Every step of the process was well communicated, timely and professional and I would definitely recommend him to others and hope to work with him again soon.
