Highlights
Vintage 1960s white bone china footed tea cup and saucer with delicate blue floral pattern. Colclough Ridgeway Potteries Ltd. Made in England. Cup: 3 3/8 x 2 7/8", saucer: 5.5". This pattern, #8183, is rare and very difficult to find.
Very lovely set with pretty floral design. In wonderful vintage condition with no nicks, chips, cracks or damage. No wear to the gold trim.
Colclough has a very interesting history. Established in 1890 Herbert Joseph Colclough, who became known to be very meticulous about his creations, it was the first to market every day fine bone china and selling it in individual pieces, eliminating the necessity of buying a large set all at once, making it affordable and accessible to a larger, less affluent market.
In 1913, King George V and Queen Mary paid a visit and granted him a license to produce Royal Vale china.
In the early 1950's he merged with Ridgeway, which also has an interesting history of its own. In the early 1970s, together they became part of the Royal Doulton Group, but by 1996, Colclough ceased production. It remains one of the most desired china among collectors.
