Description

Royal Worcester is a name used by collectors. Worcester porcelains were made in Worcester, England, from about 1751. A mark designed by Robert Chamberlain, a decorator at the factory, which sometimes included the name Worcester, appeared on Worcester pieces as early as 1790. The firm went through many different periods and name changes. It became the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company, Ltd., in 1862. Today collectors call the porcelains made after 1862 "Royal Worcester.

For your consideration, I am offering this handsome, figural sculpture of a rustic man with a tall basket manufactured by Royal Worcester Porcelain Company and designed by James Hadley in Body Shape No. 133 - made in England with back stamp dating c.1918 ...

The male figurine depicts an older gentleman painted in assorted shades of golds over cream standing in traditional dress including cape and hat resting on a tall basket....The rear of the base incised Hadley..

He stands approximately 11 inches tall (27 cm) standing on a 4.25 inch base diameter..

Printed factory marks underneath - the burgundy Royal Worcester trademark stamp with * and two dots representing the year 1918.. Plus numbers 133 (body shape) and capital H (Hadley)...

Light signs of previous use should be expected consistent with age....slight to none on the gold wear, free of cracks, chips, crazing or hairlines - I notice one nick on his top hat - see pictures..

Absolutely handsome and a perfect addition to our Royal Worcester figurine collection!!!

Facts on potter and artist James Hadley:
James Hadley was born in August, 1837 and was English Potter and artist and considered one of its finest associated with England's Worcester Royal Porcelain Factory for most of the 19th century, he later set up his own factory.. In 1900 Hadley & Sons became a limited company with shares held by James and his four sons, Louis, Howard, Harry & Frank and Frank Littledale..After his passing in December, 1903, In June 1905, Royal Worcester purchased his factory and all of his molds and continued on with his work and designs but the letter "H" was added to the Royal Worcester shape design number on the underside of pieces.
