Not a scarf, not quite a poncho, nor a shawl, quechquemitls fill in a category all their own. A nice coverup over ones shoulders that looks great from all angles and can be worn backwards!

Vintage from Mexico, this quechquemitl is a beautiful deep indigo ikat with hand-crocheted fagotted seams. These traditional garments have been worn throughout Mexico for the last 2,000 years. Because they are usually combined with other clothing, like wrap skirts and huipils, their size is generally dictated by the layered fashion in combination with these other garments. Quechquemitls, (ponchos) have become popular again and are replicated in many different fabrics and are very much in style. Popularized by Frida Kahlo in the 40's we are all loving these again!
It would fit a size 6-10
