What Is Encaustic?
Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos) and the art of encaustic painting actually dates back to ancient times. Encaustic consists of natural bees wax and damar resin (crystallized tree sap). Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing multiple layers of wax.

Using these encaustic techniques and its detailed process, Levine has created a one-of-a-kind piece of art, combining her original photography with the alluring textures and natural luminosity of wax.

Because Norah is committed to giving back with her art, a percentage of the sale from this purchase will be donated animal welfare causes.

Care:
This art is extremely archival, but as with any fine art, care should be given to them.

There should be no fear of the work melting in normal household conditions. The wax and resin will not melt unless exposed to temperatures over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Leaving a painting in as car on a hot day would not be advisable or hanging a painting in front of a window with direct desert-like sun. They are also sensitive to freezing cold temperatures.

Some encaustic colors tend to “bloom” or become cloudy over time. If the artwork appears indistinct, simply rub the surface with a soft cloth or nylon stocking. Otherwise these subtle changes are considered one of the unique and interesting aspects of the work, as the wax continues to cure and harden for up 1-3 years.

This beautiful piece was more wonderful in person then photographed. I have seen a lot of encaustic pieces and this one was done with great artistry, and vision that enhanced the photograph. It is an honor to have one of Norah's pieces hanging in my home and I look forward to her growing her shop and adding to my collection. Thank you Norah for sharing your art with me...xxx

This piece was far more beautiful than can be portrayed through the photo. It has subtle textures and a wonderful patina that greatly enhances the overall piece. It truly is a beautiful work of art and every part of the shopping experience was truly a pleasure and clearly Norah takes great pride and care in all aspects of the business side of creating art.

Piece was as beautiful in person as it was in the photo. Nora is a dream when it comes to the care she takes in getting her artwork to your doorstep. Packaged beautifully and always touching base to ensure it arrives promptly and in good condition.
