Description

LIVE PROBIOTIC WILD SOURDOUGH STARTER WHEAT BREAD

You will receive 1/4 cup live Wild Sourdough Starter in a sealed food grade bag. Please remember, the culture can be sustained indefinitely if taken care of properly. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

ABOUT SUMMER SHIPPING
I continue to sell and ship cultures in summer. Doing it for over 5 years now gave me the confidence in how hardy these cultures are. I do not use ice packs, but please know that all packages are chilled prior to shipping and delivered to USPS office cold. Rest assured, I do my best to ensure you get your item in good and viable condition. I also now offer USPS Priority Shipping which can be selected at the checkout. If you have any questions or concerns, please convo me and I will happily assist you!

Feeding:
Use a 1:1 ratio of flour to warm water to feed. If starter if left on counter it needs to be fed once every 8-12 hours. If refrigerated it needs to be fed once a week.

How to tell if your starter is no good:
Turns pink or orange; rotten smell; mold on top

Additional starter information:
1. Ratio for feeding: 1 cup starter gets 1 cup flour and 1 cup warm water. Mix well. Starter will be thick and will rise, so a large vented container is a must.
2. Acetone smell doesnt mean the starter has gone bad. That smell is caused by a certain bacteria in the starter.
3. You may notice a watery substance on surface of starter; this is called "hooch". It is safe to leave in starter. Just stir in well before using. It will give starter a more sour taste.
4. Warm spring/well or filtered water is recommended for feeding.

Thank you for looking!

Despite being proficient in the kitchen and having a passion for baking artisan breads, I could never get sourdough to work for me. I've been practicing for a few years on poolish and biga breads, working my way up to sourdough. I ordered a starter online through an Amazon seller. It never became active despite following directions to a T. I attempted to make my own wild culture. Negative.

I was already ordering milk kefir grains and yogurt from AnythingHealthyLLC, so I thought I'd give sourdough another try. I received the items quickly, and they were packed well. I had every intention of starting with the sourdough culture the day it arrived. That didn't happen. That poor culture sat on my counter for a week. I finally got around to it, fed it for 2 days, then attempted a loaf. It. Was. Delicious. I am THRILLED. So good!
