  • Handmade
  • Materials: silk scarf, Cochineal dye, fabric paint, joy, intrigue

  • Length: 72 inches
  • Width: 14 inches

I feel like the depth of red here is a little deceptive. It’s actually deeper, but the camera, in its interaction with the reflective qualities of the scarf, couldn’t quite capture it.

The thing is, it’s silk; and silk being silk, is going to reflect. It’s a wine red, dyed with Cochineal.

Cochineal has produced some of the most highly desired reds for centuries. Working with it was a revelation – a different approach from indigo.

The scarf measures 14” x 72” long and is a light, airy Habotai or China silk. The pattern is simple – a straight stitched stripe in shibori. I wanted to see how the dye would respond to the stitch.

Care: I espouse soaking in cold water before adding a non-bleaching soap – something gentle for delicate items. Line dry out of direct sunlight, then press on the appropriate silk or low setting.

I came across this listing and requested a custom indigo overdye of some pale blue chinos I had... I was hoping for a hybrid between chinos/khakis and jeans. What I received was nothing short of amazing. Customer service and communication with the seller was amazing. The price and service rendered is beyond fair and the return shipping was very fast and nicely packaged. But most importantly the final product looks exactly how I imagined a custom, hand-dyed pair of pants would look, with slight color variations near seams and contrasting stitching and buttons where the dye didn't penetrate as well, lending a very rugged workwear and denim-like look. The blue color itself is amazing. I can't wait to hopefully get that indigo "fade" like jeans, and get more character with wear! HAPPY CUSTOMER.
