seeds, seed packet

Our herb, flower, and vegetable seeds for backyard and container gardens are packaged in illustrated envelopes. We grow our plants without chemical fertilizers or pesticides and harvest seeds by hand in small batches. Varieties and quantities vary based on our garden’s yield, but several of the seed varieties have been grown in the owner’s family for two generations. Each packet comes with instructions for planting and a seasonal ritual suggestion.

Many cultures hold extensive seed-blessing or tree-planting ceremonies to honor the Earth, loved ones, or encourage a good harvest, but there are many ways for you to participate in this long-standing tradition. For example, it is a common practice to design personal rituals based on the seasons. For example, in the fall you might write out wishes and let the water wash them away into being. In winter, you might bury your wish in the ground where it, like a flower bulb, might gain energy and momentum to bloom. In spring, you might scatter your wishes to the winds. All of these practices connect to planting a garden, giving you an opportunity to use seed planting symbolically as a chance to set intentions for living a more meaningful life.

Big steps can advance you quickly towards any goal, but at The Dark Exact we believe that every action is valid. A series of small steps may also take you where you need to be. In common speech we use the metaphor of planting a seed to denote the small, often unnoticed start of an idea that will become so much more. Scattering a few seeds may seem like a small action, but it has the potential for huge transformation. Planting a garden can also be like creating a work of art: you have a vision, you make a plan, gather the necessary tools, and get to work. But as with all creative projects, unforeseen challenges often occur. Ultimately, gardening reminds us to be flexible. While we can work with patterns that exist, Nature is unpredictable and changeable. Even when we wait for the right time, some seeds may not grow as expected. Staying open to what may come is important. The process is as vital as the yield.
