Description

This listing is for a pitcher from a very long ago. It was made by a company called the Sheffield Silver Company. Read the history it is interesting, not much but all I could find. This is a beautiful piece, it does have on the underside a piece of silver missing about the size of a fingerprint, small. It has decorative ornate items in it, the handle. The pitcher itself has a lined pattern on it. It is a pedestal type of pitcher. The inside looks like it was never used. It is in good vintage condition especially considering it's age.

HISTORY
Sheffield Silver, or “Old Sheffield Plate” as it is more formally known, was invented in 1743 by Thomas Boulsover of the Cutlers Company of Sheffield, UK.

Sheffield Silver is silver and copper that have been fused together by heating, where the silver is on the outside and the copper is on the inside. There are distinct layers, as in a sandwich. A “Double Sandwich” method was applied to items like bowls or mugs where the inside and outside of the item are visible. In this instance, there is a layer of silver both on the outside of the cup or bowl, and another layer of silver on the inside.

The Sheffield Plate process was succeeded by the “Electroplating” process, such as Elkington silver.
