El Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a wonderful Mexican tradition where people welcome the spirits of their loved ones back to the physical world for the period of the holiday. I love the idea of celebrating the lives of our loved ones who have passed on, accepting death as a part of life, and weaving those happy images of the holiday into our daily lives. Death becomes less frightening and not such a hush-hush subject. As such, I love to work in all things "calavera."

I used tissue from gift bags I've received, several different kinds of paper I've collected over time, and a piece of leather from an old folder to create this piece.

The 16" x 20" stretched canvas is covered all the way around, so it does not need a frame. You can hang this piece easily by the top stretcher strip. Of course, you can frame it if you wish.

These sassy gals are full of life, and they rock the casbah. Let them inspire you to show your bloomers, wear that old PVC dress to tea, and strike up a hula here and there in your coconut bra.
