Description

I pick real pine cones from Mountain Alder cones in the mountains around Estes Park, Colorado to cast these solid silver pine cones. They are not plated! After attaching a wax wire to each pine cone, I stand them up on a rubber base. Then I put a steel cylinder over the pine cones and fill it with investment (Plaster of Paris on steroids), a liquid ceramic mold material. After it was dry, about three hours, I placed the cylinder (we call it a flask) into a kiln and burn out the pine cones. This was done by heating the kiln to 1,450 degrees for six hours. The wax wire and pine cone is completely burned away, and disappears as smoke and gasses. Then I use a broken arm spin caster to cast Sterling Silver into the mold. This mold has to be destroyed so that the Silver pine cone can be removed. It was quenched in water and the investment was "blown apart". This mold is destroyed in the process. This is why it is called "lost wax casting", the wax pattern (in this case a real pine cone) is lost. Each time I want to cast another pine cone, I have to pick one and go through this process again and again. This process makes these pine cones look as if they grew on the tree in Sterling Silver. I have sold thousands of these and never have had one returned for any reason.

Because each pine cone is picked from a tree they will vary in size.

1 Sterling Silver Pine Cone pendant for $39.99 plus the $6.00 shipping and handling.

Price does not include the chain. If you would like to purchase a nice 20 inch Sterling Silver box chain that I use on all my pieces, please find them in my store for $5.00 each or less if order in quantities of 10 or more. I have never had one of these chains break. Prices will vary with the spot price of Silver, but for now you can get 100 of them for $299.00! Just search Sterling Silver box chains in my store.
