Description

Frank Graham Cootes Original Signed Gouache in Tiger Veneer Frame 1915, Gouache is a technique of painting with opaque watercolors prepared with gum. 2. an opaque color used in painting a gouache. 3. a work painted using gouache.

A Print on board Titled "The Skin You Love to Touch" which is this work, sold for $437 on 03-02-12. The Auction house was Heritage Auctions - The United States: Los Angeles, Beverly Hills Heritage Auctions. A gouache on board Titled " Pictorial Review Cover" sold for $736 in 10-15-2010 by the same artist. Auction house Heritage Auctions - The United States: New York. This work is done on paper with signature by artist.

Coot's drawings attracted the art editors of the country's most popular periodicals, and some of his early works were selected for magazine covers. An image composed of gouache and pastel adorned a cover of Pictorial Review in 1907. The following year a painting appeared on the September 19 cover of the Saturday Evening Post, and two more covers followed during the next four years. In 1910, the same year that he joined the Society of Illustrators, Vogue used one of his drawings for its August 15 cover.

Cootes is best known for his posthumous portrait of Woodrow Wilson. Commissioned by the president's widow, Edith Bolling Galt Wilson, Cootes composed the official portrait that hangs at the White House. He was a very accomplished Artist and I am pleased to be able offer this work. I was told by the Estate sale manger that it was from the early 20's but took off back to see work clearer and replace glass and found a newspaper from 1915.

The Frame is period tiger veneer frame and measures approximately 19-1/8" by 17-1/8". The paper backing, as with most art I buy is missing. I guess Folks are looking for money or a copy of the Declaration Of Independence or something special. I believe this to be a gouache portrait. There is an off chance this is a print but, if it is and I doubt i, with his original signature and in this good of shape it would be worth the price I am asking and more.
