This wall plaque, made by Ceramica Giulianelli, San Marino, Italy in the 1960's. is a great example of what the pottery manufactures of San Marino did best. Featuring an elegant, abstract sgraffito design of woman on a bed of rich, fiery red surrounded by a wonderful textured bubbling ‘Lava’ glaze. The mixture of design, color and texture is so wild and of its time.
This piece can be used as a trinket dish, or thanks to two small holes drilled on the underside, hung on the wall as a decorative wall plaque.
Length – 30.5cm / 12”
Width – 10.4cm / 4.5”
The piece is in lovely condition. No chips, cracks and only the very lightest crazing in parts. Nothing unexpected for the age. There is some very light wear to the back of the plaque, but this does not affect the look of the piece. I hope this is clear from my photographs. The shape of this plaque is a more subtle than some of the San Marino pottery of the era but does not lose any of its wacky and unique charm. Perfect for any contemporary home.
