Description

Elegant ethnic necklace with beautiful handmade beads from Asia and Africa.

For the design of this statement necklace I was inspired by the traditional Southwestern jewelry of the Native American population in North America. I used the gorgeous African Chevron focal glass bead as a starting point, and I created the rest of the necklace by using cobalt blue and red ethnic beads with a similar tribal style and ''feel''.

You will find lots of interesting beads in this necklace, like elegant red resin beads that are handmade in Indonesia, rough and earthy African recycled glass beads, natural Turquoise stone, antique red Bohemian glass tubes, Native American glass ''Crow beads'', Indonesian wound glass and vintage silver metal beads from the Berber area in Morocco. I added some background information about the beads below.....

The length of this necklace is approx. 20 1/2 inches / 52 cm

-------------------------------------------

* About the beads.....

The beautiful large CHEVRON glass bead is made in Ghana and she is a stunning replica of the old Chevron beads that were used as a means of trade during the colonial trade of Europe with Africa.

Chevron beads are among the most collectible and recognizable of all Venetian Glass Trade Beads. They all have a distinctive star-shaped design around the hole. The bold, striped designs of Chevron beads are compared to watermelons and humbug sweets, and they are also called "rosetta" beads. The earliest known Chevron Beads were produced around the 1400s in Murano and Venice, and typically comprised 7 colored layers.

Eye catching and really elegant are the 6 red faux Amber RESIN beads, that were handmade on Java, Indonesia. The beads have a warm and natural cherry red color and they are all slightly different. They are gorgeous replica of the precious ancient amber beads, that are priceless these days.

Resin beads are produced by mixing liquid resin with a hardener and color, they are then poured into molds or onto sheets. The resulting bead is then hand-shaped, sanded and drilled. The beads look like matte glass beads, but they are light weight.

The translucent dark blue glass beads are so called "Crow beads". Beads with this particular shape and size were traditionally handcrafted by the Native American / Indian population of North America. They were used as means of trade and to decorate traditional costumes, parcels, the tipi and utensils.

The 6 matted rough cobalt blue beads are handmade by the people of Krobo in Ghana out of recycled pieces of glass.

I also added some handmade blue wound glass beads from Indonesia, and beautiful dark red Bohemian faceted glass beads (tubes). The Bohemian glass beads are antique, produced around 1900 and used during the trade between Europe and Africa.

-----------------------------

* I create one of kind jewelry with handmade ethnic beads. Please remember that these beads are irregular and not perfectly round or shaped. This gives them their beautiful historical and/or traditional appearance.

Shipping policies

1. All orders will take 2-3 business days to be processed after receiving your payment. My items will be well packed and send in a padded envelope with regular mail. Because I care for our environment, you could receive your purchase in a recycled envelope or carton box.

2.
- To keep the shipping costs affordable, all jewelry will be shipped with regular international mail of PostNL. Please NOTE that this shipping method is not insured, not registered and without a tracking code. In four years time I never lost an envelope.
- During Check-Out you could choose the option of shipment with a tracking code. The costs are for the buyer.
- Larger items will be send as a package with international mail of PostNL with a Track&Trace code.

3. Shipping time:
Shipping time to the US / Worldwide: approx. 10 to 20 working days
Shipping time to EU countries: approx. 5 - 10 working days
Shipping time to non-EU countries: approx. 10 working days

4. Shipping costs
Shipping costs are calculated by using the standard rates of the Dutch postal services PostNL from the Netherlands (Europe). Unfortunately the shipping costs for a parcel are relatively high from the Netherlands to Worldwide / US. This is due to the standard rates and I don't get any profit from it.

5. Customs
As I am not familiar with the policy of imported goods of your country, I am not responsible for any extra fees occurring during the transportation. All countries have different import & export customs fees. You could check at your local post office if you have any doubts.

6. If an item can not be imported to your country or you are not authorized to import such kind of items, I am not responsible for any fees, including return shipping costs or customs fee etc.
