Description

Sea glass necklace amber, yellow and dark brown Cornish sea glass glass on a triple bronze metal chain.

18 inch bronze metal chain necklace.

Sea glass is physically and chemically weathered glass found on beaches next to salt water. These weathering processes produce natural frosted glass. Genuine sea glass can be collected and can be used to make jewellery. Sea glass takes 20 to 30 years, and sometimes as much as 50 years, to acquire its characteristic texture, shape and natural beauty.
Sea glass begins as normal pieces of broken glass that are then constantly tumbled and ground until the sharp edges are smoothed and rounded. In this process, the glass loses its smooth shiny surface and gains a frosted appearance over a period of many years.
Natural sea glass originates as pieces of glass from broken bottles, broken tableware, or even shipwrecks, which are then rolled and tumbled in the ocean for years until all of their edges are rounded off, and the slickness of the glass has been worn to a beautiful frosted appearance.
The sea glass used in this jewellery has been collected by myself from the beautiful beaches of Cornwall, England.
