Description

This bookmark features Bridget, the February fairy, and an iris, because they bloom in February, and it is lavender and white, because those are Imbolc colors.

A tidbit about Imbolc (paraphrased from various sources):
Imbolc: February 2. Also known as Imbolg/Candlemas. The first of the Spring holidays, sacred to Brighid (a Celtic goddess of fire, water, creativity, and all sorts of things; eventually converted to a saint). Colors are lavender and white. Even though it's still wintery out the coming of spring is celebrated; is associated with cleansing and fertility; and commonly is associated with weather divination, in which a small animal seeing it's shadow determines how far off spring is (depending on the region/version the animal may differ, one myth says only that whether or not it is cloudy determines if the goddess who brings winter can find firewood or not, thus prolonging winter or bringing spring...).

About my "Fae and Furious" pieces:
They're faeries. Painted very quickly. (I usually spend obsessive amounts of time agonizing over the details of my watercolors, these I popped out in a few short hours after which I had to force myself not to tweak them.) They're furious because the fairies are all at war with each other, and also it's a wordy play on "Fast and Furious" and because it's the name that sticks the best (all the other ones were much worse, I assure you).

A tidbit about Bridget:
Bridget is one of the 13 fairies that I made up once upon a time (ha ha, no pun intended...ish) when I was a composing a (as of yet and probably perpetually) unfinished story about Sleeping Beauty. There's one for every month, plus one extra. They have all sorts of alliances and suchlike and are at war, and elemental, and all have weird names that are vaguely associated with their month names, function, or holidays therein.
Bridget is the fairy of February (as one might suspect). She is named after Brighid, who is associated with Imbolc (February 2nd, or Saint Brighid's day more or less). She is allied with Moira (the 13th monthless fairy) and Avery (April), She is the 6th oldest (all the fairies are sisters), and likes to start fires. She's a bit mischievous.

This bookmark measures 2" x 5 1/4". All my bookmarks now come in plastic sleeves!
